—to know that we have loved well
—to know that we have satisfied the day
Most people who seek out psychotherapy want the pain (emotional and/or physical) to stop, and to find a better way to be alive. Over the years I have discovered that regardless of the specific complaint, (e.g., relationship problems, depression, anxiety, addictions, trauma, stress and distress, creative blocks…) that two fundamental questions underlie most hurting: Have I loved well enough? and, Is my life meaningful? If these questions are meaningful to you, I might be the right therapist for you.
There is no problem too big or too little for the kind of psychotherapy I offer: everything that concerns you is worthy of our careful attention. I listen well. I work with you so you can effectively access your own deep knowledge/wisdom, learn whatever life skills you might need, and move into a life where you feel happy, fulfilled, and connected. Most simply put, I help people break through before they break down.
Frequent concerns in my practice:
– Addiction recovery (including on-line, internet, and sexual addictions)
– ACA (adult children of alcoholics)
– Anxiety Disorders
– Creative Blocks & the Change process
– Depressive Disorders
– GLBT issues
– Mindfulness-based stress-reduction and pain management
– Second half of life issues
– The Psychology of Women
– Trauma recovery (including early childhood abuse as well as sexual abuse)
